BELLEROPHON

Prescott class, 2004

Current Status of Unit: Decommissioned / Dismantled

The second of VerTecX21's two Pentium 4 based units, Bellerophon [a hero of Greek mythology] was a Komplett S478 unit customised by VerTecX21 and built by engineers at Komplett in the United Kingdom. It was commissioned on 28th Nov 2004 to replace Hyperion as Primary System.

Bellerophon boasted a 90nm "Prescott" CPU and adopted the GeForce FX5900XT GPU which was a previous upgrade to Hyperion. With 2GB of the new DDR RAM, a THX-certified soundcard and a 120GB HDD it was one of the most incredible machines for it's time.

After serving as Primary System for almost 3 years, Bellerophon was replaced by Maxximus on 30th Aug 2007. Bellerophon subsequently became the Secondary System, but on 24th Jul 2008 not even a year in it's new role it suffered chronic systems failure believed to be caused by temperature overheating after a Northbridge fan failure, a voltage imbalance between RAM or an unforeseen BIOS issue. Bellerophon was deemed unrecoverable as a unit and was decommissioned after just 4 Years and 9 Months of service.
