VULCANUS
Granite Ridge class, 2025
Current Status of Unit: Active - Primary System
Vulcanus (Latin for Vulcan, the Roman god of fire) had its design finalised on Jan 15th 2025. Parts were sourced from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Germany. It began construction on February 2nd and was commissioned on Feb 5th. It replaced Tritonis as the Primary System after the latter unit had served for 3 years of continuous operation.
In early 2025 factors required the decommissioning of then Tertiary System Apophis. Rather than upgrading an aged platform it was decided to extensively refit Tritonis and Sicarius for roles as Secondary and Tertiary Systems respectively and add a new installation for the Primary System. Vulcanus was designed around the AMD Granite Ridge 5 nm Zen 5 processor on an AMD X870 platform with 32GB of DDR5 RAM utilising an existing NVIDIA Lovelace GPU.
Vulcanus is the first VerTecx21 unit to have an AMD rather than an Intel CPU/Chipset platform and the very first unit built as new into an existing infrastructure of chassis and PSU.
